Victim safety should be the premier focus for tribal nations as they design, develop, and implement victim centered, culturally appropriate responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. Yet tribal nations are often under-resourced to develop needed programming including; the lack of community education and awareness programs, the lack of trained advocates to work with victims and the overall lack of training opportunities and resources for advocates and those who interface with victims. This Initiative was created to provide tools and resources for tribes to conduct outreach and education; to receive training on developing community-based and systems advocacy; to receive training for advocates to assist victims with safety planning; and developing and sustaining basic safety measures for survivors and their children.
